Abhishek and Family
Abhishek Bachchan aka Abhi is the grandson of Harivansh Rai Bachchan, and is the son of one of the most prominent actors in the Indian Film Industry, Amitabh Bachchan, and his wife Jaya Bachchan. Abhishek Bachchan was born and brought up in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, where he currently resides. His elder sister is Shweta Bachchan-Nanada. Abhi got married to Aishwariya Rai in 2007, and has a cute daughter named Aaradhya.
Abhi completed his schooling at many different places. He attended the Jamnabai Narsee School and the Bombay Scottish School in Mumbai, Modern School at Vasant Vihar in New Delhi, and Aiglon College in Switzerland. For further studies, he went to Boston University, but dropped out because he was more interested in acting. His father, Amitabh Bachchan, also appreciated his decision.
Entry into the Film Industry
In 2000, he made his debut as the leading actor in J. P. Dutta’s movie, Refugee, next to another new face in Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor. The movie was ‘Okay’ at the box office, but it was the fifth highest grossing film of that year. Consecutively, Abhi was seen in flop movies like Shararat, Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai, Main Prem Ki Deewani Hu and Yuva.
Comeback and Mixed Success
Abhishek's movies were the biggest flops at the box office, however, his acting was always appreciated by the audiences. His comeback into the film industry was with the movie Dhoom, his first commercial hit. In the coming years, he acted in many hit movies such as Bunty Aur Babli, Sarkar, Dus, Bluffmaster and Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna.
In 2007, he starred in the movie Guru, opposite Aishwariya Rai, which was again a great achievement and his first solo hit. Its story was based on the iconic personality - Dhirubhai Ambani. In the same year, Abhi got married to Aishwariya, but before that, they informally got married in the movie as well. In the following years, he delivered superhits like Sarkar, Sarkar Raj and Dostana.
He also turned into a producer with the film Paa. Later on, he acted in movies like Raavan, Kheley Hum Jee Jaan Se, Delhi 6, etc., which were big flops for him. Bol Bachchan and Dhoom 3 though were commercial successes.
Abhishek has also been named as Asia’s Sexiest Male of the year 2006 by a British tabloid.
