GOSF is an online based shopping festival created by Google India.
The Great Online Shopping Festival (GOSF) is exactly what its name claims to be; it is an online shopping festival that aims to provide discount on online shopping websites. GOSF was created by Google India in order to promote online shopping for Indian consumers.
GOSF is actually based on Cyber Monday, a similar online shopping festival that occurs in United States of America. Cyber Monday occurs the first Monday after the American Thanksgiving, which occurs on the last Thursday of November. On Cyber Monday, various online shopping website offer sales on their products. This trend started in 2005 and has since spread to Canada, China, Japan, Australia, Colombia, and the U.K.
The first GOSF was held on December 12, 2012. For the festival, Google India advertised on YouTube and Google Plus. Google also partnered with a number of ecommerce sites such as Flipkart, HomeShop18, Snapdeal, Indiatimes shopping, Infibeam and Makemytrip to participate in the event.
The festival went on to become such a hit that since then it has gone on to expand into three days. In 2013, the festival lasted from December 11–14. In 2014, the festival lasted from December 10 – 12, and involved 450 online retailers. It has expanded to include several categories such as lifestyle, electronics, books and media, home and kitchen, groceries, mobile apps, automobiles, and real estate. In fact, discounts were also given on career services, health care and insurance policies, travel packages and matrimonial plans. Other than that, some companies also decided to launched their products especially for and on GOSF. Some of the launched products included Motorola Nexus 6, Google Chromecast, and Appyappstore, which is an app store for children.
