Amsterdam is a city in the Netherlands.
Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands. It is also the most populous city in the Netherlands. Even though Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands, the government is actually situated in The Hague.
The name of the city comes from ‘Amstelredamme’, which indicates the city’s origin as a ‘dam on the river Amstel’. Amsterdam is located in the province of North Holland, which is in west Netherlands.
Amsterdam houses the Amsterdam Stock Exchange, which is the oldest stock exchange in the world. It also contains various other attractions that call tourists from around the world, including its ‘historic canals, the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum, Hermitage Amsterdam, Anne Frank House, Amsterdam Museum, its red-light district, and its many cannabis coffee shops’.
