Where is Ayodhya?
Ayodhya is an ancient city located in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India.
Ayodhya is an ancient city that has ties to Indian mythology. It is located adjacent to Faizabad in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. Historically, Ayodhya was the capital of the ancient Kosala Kingdom.
Mythologically, Ayodhya is believed to be the birth place of Lord Rama and the setting of the Ramayana, an epic which illustrates the birth of Lord Rama, his 14-year exile which included his defeat of the evil king Ravana, and Rama’s return to Ayodhya to reclaim his rightful throne.
Ayodhya is listed to be one of the seven most sacred cities of India in the puranas. The main reason for this is that it has played an important backdrop for most of Hindu scripture. Ayodhya is described as "a city built by Gods and being prosperous as paradise itself." Due to this and Ayodhya’s abundance of sacred temples, it is mainly a religious destination today.
