Belgium is a country located in Western Europe.
Belgium is a federal monarchy in Western Europe. It is actually officially known as the Kingdom of Belgium. The country covers an area of 30,528 square kilometers (11,787 sq mi), and it has a population of approximately 11 million people.
Belgium has the North Sea on its northwestern border, Netherlands on the north, Germany in the east, Luxembourg on the Southeast, and France on the south and Southwest. Due to this, Belgium has become a cultural boundary between Germanic and Latin Europe. The country itself is made up to two main linguistic groups, the Dutch-speakers and the French-speakers. This has lead to various political conflicts within the country.
Belgium has a strong economy which plays an important part in Europe’s transport infrastructure, as well as the world’s diamond trade. Belgium is also a founding member of the European Union and it hosts the EU's headquarters as well as those of several other major international organizations such as NATO.
