The internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that links billions of devices around the world under the Internet protocol suite.

Thinking back makes us wonder, how did we ever live without the internet? Now, trying to make sense of how the internet works, it seems miraculous that the internet exists in the first place. The internet is basically a network that connects billions of systems all over the globe. It is basically a network of networks, as it is a global network that connects millions of smaller networks.

The internet is no small feat. It connects than 190 countries around the world. It allows transfer and sharing of data and information. In fact, nearly 40% of the world's population uses the internet. All these people access information from over a billion different websites. There are many different applications of the internet. It can be used to send inter-linked hypertext documents and applications of the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic mail, telephony, and peer-to-peer networks for file sharing.

Since the invention of the internet, it has allowed us to achieve remarkable things; some good, and some not so good. Hence, it can be said that the internet has various different advantages and disadvantages. However, which are more? Let us see.

  • Information can be easily hacked, especially in context of online banking and other transaction services, there lies a great risk of the account details, credit card numbers etc.
  • Viruses, Spywares, and hacking software make credit card frauds and identity thefts common
  • Pornography is commonly available, include child pornography
  • Leads to cyberbullying and predators
  • Leads people to get disconnected with reality and focusing more on the online
