Meaning of Kai Po Che
The term ‘Kai Po Che’ simply means ‘I have cut the kite’.

The phrase ‘Kai Po Che’ is a Gujarati expression, which is commonly used while flying kites. The children usually scream the phrase as a victory shout, indicating the winner.

During Makar Sakaranti or The Kite Festival in Gujarat, this phrase can be widely heard throughout the state. The literal English translation of the phrase is ‘I have cut’.  During the festival, one of the competitors uses his kite to cut off someone else’s kite and yells "Kai Po Che!" in victory, implying he has won the game.

The phrase ‘Kai Po Che!’ became famous as the title of a 2013 Indian Drama film. The film was directed by Abhishek Kapoor based on Chetan Bhagat's novel ‘The 3 Mistakes of My Life’. Sushant Singh Rajput, Raj Kumar Yadav and Amit Sadh stared in the movie as the three main protagonists, while Amrita Puri played the female lead in the film. The story revolves around three friends who want to start their own sports shop and sports academy. The film tracks their deep friendship and innocence flawed by religious politics and communal hatred, which results in their fallout and an eventual death.
