Meaning of CV

A CV is an overview of a person’s experience and other qualifications.

Whenever somebody applies for a job, the first thing that a potential employer will ask for is a CV. CV stands for curriculum vitae. It is a comprehensive overview of a person’s qualifications.

A CV generally includes a summary of the job seeker’s employment history, qualifications, education, and some personal information. It allows the employer to get a gist of the person and to decide if the person is fit and qualified for the job. If the employer is interested in the candidate, then he/she will invite them for an interview.

The term “curriculum vitae” is Latin, and roughly translates as “[the] course of [my] life”. Hence, it is generally expected to be a short comprehensive overview of the person himself or herself.
