Meaning of Global Warming

Global Warming is a gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth’s atmosphere.

Global Warming has been in constant debate in media over the last few years. Many people even claim that Global Warming is a hoax, that it is not real. However, sadly that is not the case. Global Warming is real and is gaining precedence over other matters, because if global warming is not addressed then it could mean the end of life as we know it.

In simplest terms, Global Warming is the slow but steady increase in the Earth’s temperatures. Since the 1900s, the earth has seen increases in the global air and sea surface temperatures. The Earth is now hotter than it has ever been in hundreds or even thousands for years.

About two-thirds of the temperature increase has occurred since 1980. This is mainly due to the increasing emissions of greenhouse gases. The primary greenhouse gases in the Earth’s atmosphere are water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone. They are increasing in concentration in the atmosphere due to human activities, primarily by combustion of carbon-based fuels, such as wood, coal, oil, and natural gas.

It is estimated that if Global Warming is not brought under control, and it continues as is, then by 2047, the Earth’s surface temperature could exceed historical accounts and will affect Earth’s ecosystems and the livelihoods of over 3 billion people worldwide.
