Meaning of Jumme Ki Raat

Jumme Ki Raat means Friday night.

Jumma is an Arabic word, which means “Friday.” Hence, Jumme Ki Raat means “Friday night.” Jumma, also spelt Jummah, is the sixth day of the Islamic week and is the most important day in Islam. As the Islamic week begins on Sunday, Jumma falls on Friday, making Friday the most auspicious day for Muslims.

The phrase ‘Jumme Ki Raat’ has recently been made popular by a Bollywood film, Kick. Kick stars Salman Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez. It features the song, ‘Jumme Ki Raat,’ which was sung by Mika Singh and Palak Muchhal. Himesh Reshammiya provided the music for the song, while Kumaar and Shabbir Ahmed wrote the lyrics.

The first few lines of ‘Jumme Ki Raat’ go as:

Arre jumme ki raat hai,
Chumme ki baat hai,
Allah bachaaye mujhe tere waar se…

This translates into English as:

It’s the night of Friday,
It’s about a kiss,
God save me from your attack…
