What is a typical resume format?
The resume is a summary of the person’s education, experiences, skills and accomplishments, which should usually be relevant to the field of work.
A resume is a statement that the candidate makes to any and all potential employers. It is the employers first impression of the applicant’s, and essentially decides whether or not the he or she will grant you an interview. The typical resume should be printed in black ink on an A4 size white paper, with a ½ or 1 inch margin, all around. The font should be between 10 and 12, while the headings can be in 14. Use a professional font, such as Times New Roman or Ariel. However, unprofessional looking fonts, such as Comic Sans should not be used.
A typical resume should not be too long or to short. It should be just enough to cover all of the aspects that the candidate would like to highlight. These aspects, attributes or skills must showcase why the candidate is good for the job.
A typical resume must also include the following:
Contact Information: Name, address, phone number and e-mail.
Objective or Heading: What are you applying for this particular job? This part is optional, which means that some include it and some don’t; it is your choice. You can also include professional objectives, career goals, job objectives, professional goals, and position desired. Be specific.
Work experience: listed in reverse chronological order, i.e. last job first. Where you worked, at what job and for how long? Also include job responsibilities and professional achievements.
Education experience: again, listed in reverse chronological order. Where you studied, what you studied, and the degree earned. Also include any educational achievements, any awards earned, any clubs participated in, etc.
Volunteer work: If applicable, mention any community service that you might have participated in, and any volunteer work you may have done. This looks especially well on a resume.
Skills: list any skills that you may have that would be applicable to the position that you are applying for, i.e. computer skills, language skills, etc.
While these are all important aspects of a typical resume. Keep in mind that the best resume is the one that is molded to fit you and that best shows off your abilities and capabilities.
