In 2014, the Indian Premier League will host its seventh season of the tournament between April and May. It is scheduled to start on 8th April 2014, and the last match of the tournament will be held on 30th May 2014.

The IPL is a Twenty20 cricket championship league which is held in India. It is a carnival of cricket, which keeps the viewers hooked to their TV sets.

The IPL consists of 9 teams participating in the tournament. The league is based on a round-robin group and knockout format which consists of eight teams with players from around the cricketing world. The teams are as follows:

  • The Mumbai Indians
  • The Chennai Super Kings
  • The Royal Challengers Bangalore
  • The Deccan Chargers (based in Hyderabad)
  • The Delhi Daredevils
  • The Punjab XI Kings (Mohali)
  • The Kolkata Knight Riders, and
  • The Rajasthan Royals (Jaipur)

Also, in 2011, the Pune Warriors India and the Kochi Tuskers Kerala joined the IPL tournament. However, in 2013, the Pune Warriors India backed out of the tournament. So, in 2014, there will only be 8 teams participating in the league.

The Mumbai Indians were the 2013 IPL Champions. They won the league after defeating Chennai Super Kings in the finals. The IPL matches are enjoyed by people throughout the country, however, this season there might be a setback, as with the coming 2014 Lok Sabha Election there may be a possibility that the IPL matches may be scheduled outside of India, in case of clashing dates between the two events.
